The navel orange "sits" on a drone flying out of the mountains, with goods having "electronic IDs", and the distribution of new energy charging piles becoming increasingly dense... Observant people may notice the changes happening around them. Behind these fast and quality services is the empowerment of the logistics industry by technological innovation.
In recent years, China has made significant progress in promoting the development of modern logistics. Data shows that in 2024, the overall logistics operation in the country remained stable, with a total social logistics volume of 360.6 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%, and the growth rate improved by 0.6 percentage points compared to the previous year. The growth rate of social logistics volume is steadily increasing, and social logistics costs are gradually decreasing, with improvements in logistics operation efficiency. However, challenges still exist, such as the need to deepen cost reduction and efficiency enhancement, urgent optimization of the transportation structure, and low degree of intensification in the logistics system. From a traditional perspective, addressing these bottlenecks in the logistics industry requires improving infrastructure construction, optimizing transportation methods, and perfecting the logistics system. However, as market demand becomes increasingly complex and changeable, the space for the logistics industry to achieve cost reduction, efficiency enhancement, and structural optimization through traditional management and systems is quite limited. From a developmental perspective, fundamentally solving these problems requires seeking innovation and quickly achieving transformation and upgrading.
Digitalization and intelligence are important directions for innovation in the logistics industry. Nowadays, new digital technologies and equipment have penetrated various links of supply chain services such as warehousing and transportation. For example, a company in Zhejiang has achieved rapid intelligent matching of vehicles and goods after using internet freight vehicles, reducing transportation costs by nearly 70% and increasing freight efficiency by over 50%. As a result, information processing is more centralized, decision-making is more precise, service quality of enterprises is improved, and consumers are naturally more satisfied.
Accelerating the green transformation of logistics is also a necessary option for innovation in the logistics industry. In the past year, the usage rate of clean energy for container trucks in 11 international hub ports in China exceeded 60%. Currently, more than 12 million charging facilities have been built in China, with over 95% of highway service areas equipped with charging capabilities, providing assurance for the use of more new energy vehicles. The measures for the green transformation of logistics are being accelerated, effectively promoting cost reduction and efficiency enhancement, and releasing great potential for industrial transformation and upgrading.
In addition, the development of low-altitude airspace and the expansion of the low-altitude economy have broadened the innovation space for the logistics industry. In the future, various transportation methods such as "flying in the sky", "swimming in the water", and "running on the ground" will interact in a three-dimensional manner, thereby better improving the multimodal transport system and enhancing operational efficiency.
Last year, the General Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the General Office of the State Council issued the "Action Plan for Effectively Reducing Logistics Costs in Society", providing guarantees for promoting innovation-driven development and improving quality and efficiency. Whether it is digital application, green transformation, or expanding the development space of the low-altitude economy, the purpose of innovation in the logistics industry is to improve the utilization of logistics resources and the operational efficiency of the industry, thereby continuously enhancing the core competitiveness of the industry.
In the future, we must continue to enhance innovation, broaden our thinking, and promote the logistics industry to move towards "new". By then, goods will flow smoothly, and innovative scenarios will continuously emerge.
